Winery history Niepoort

Niepoort is a family-owned winery with documented origins dating back to 1842. Historically linked to the production of Port, the winery has, since the late 20th century, expanded its offering to include still wines from the Douro and other regional projects. Over the years the family has acquired and developed several estates and has established production and collaborations in regions such as Bairrada, Dão, Vinho Verde, Alentejo and Mosel.

Production philosophy

Combines tradition and innovation: respect for biodiversity and attention to soils and viticultural practices, preservation of viticultural heritage and oenological experimentation. The winery also participates in initiatives focused on natural wines and terroir expression, including a reference to the Nat'Cool movement.

Terroir and vineyards

Headquarters and main ageing cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia; vineyards and production concentrated in the Douro. Niepoort also manages estates and projects in other Portuguese regions: Quinta da Lomba, Quinta de Baixo and vineyards and labels associated with Vinho Verde. The company also reports activities and contacts in other territories such as Mosel and Alentejo.

Awards and recognitions

Some Niepoort wines have received very high ratings from international critics; for example, the Vintage Port 2017 was awarded very high scores by The Wine Advocate reviewer Mark Squires.
