Winery history Silver Oak Cellars

Silver Oak was founded in 1972 through an agreement between Ray Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer with the aim of producing a single wine: Cabernet Sauvignon. Operations developed between Oakville and Healdsburg, with growth increasingly led by the Duncan family. Over the years the winery acquired vineyards in both appellations, rebuilt its Oakville facility after severe damage, and consolidated a supply chain that includes a company-owned coopers' cooperative to control the production of American oak barrels. In recent years the Oakville and Alexander Valley facilities have achieved LEED Platinum certification for the efficiency and sustainability of their buildings.

Production philosophy

Focus on a single grape variety — Cabernet Sauvignon — and on aging exclusively in American oak: an approach aimed at consistency of style, careful vineyard management and barrel handling to produce wines that are ready to drink yet suitable for aging. The owning family declares a commitment to sustainable practices and the long-term stewardship of the vineyards.

Terroir and vineyards

Vineyards and facilities located in the winery’s two main production areas: Oakville in Napa Valley, and Healdsburg in Alexander Valley. The fruit comes from estate vineyards and selected growers in the respective appellations.
