Morgante is a Sicilian wine producer, known for the Nero d'Avola 'Don Antonio' and for a Morgante-branded grappa produced from the pomace of the same Nero d'Avola.
Winery located in the hills of Grotte (province of Agrigento). The Morgante family has been active in viticulture for generations and, since the 1990s, has started vinifying its own grapes, focusing particularly on expressing Nero d'Avola with labels such as 'Don Antonio'.
Production philosophy
Enhancement of the native Nero d'Avola grape and the Sicilian territory; the company promotes the quality of its own grapes and the transformation of the pomace into distinctive products within its range.
Territory
Sicily, hills of Grotte (province of Agrigento).
Production method
For wines: vinification of estate grapes. For Grappa Don Antonio: the Nero d'Avola pomace from Morgante is used to produce a Morgante-branded grappa; distillation and ageing are carried out by specialized third parties (commercially indicated as Distillerie Berta as the grappa distiller).
Distillation
Pomace distillation entrusted to Distillerie Berta; product sheets indicate the use of copper steam boilers for pomace distillation.
Ageing
Aging in barrique (about 10 months) for Grappa Don Antonio.
