Maculan's Brentino is a fascinating expression of Veneto, an Italian wine region known for its diversity and production of high-quality wines. The Maculan winery, located in Breganze, a wine-growing area that enjoys an ideal microclimate thanks to the proximity of the Vicenza Prealps, stands out for its ability to create wines that capture the essence of the territory, with an eye towards experimentation and innovation.

Brentino is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, two international varieties that have found a suitable terroir in the Veneto to express unique characteristics. This wine represents Maculan's commitment to producing structured and complex red wines, capable of competing with the best international blends.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and aroma of the grapes, followed by a period of maturation in oak barriques which helps to round out the tannins and add layers of complexity to the wine's bouquet. This process reflects Maculan's philosophy, which aims to balance the modernity of winemaking techniques with the tradition of the territory.

Visually, Brentino displays a deep and inviting red color. On the nose, it opens with notes of red and black fruits, such as cherries, blackberries and a light trace of spices coming from aging in wood. The aromatic complexity is one of the strengths of this wine, offering a rich and varied olfactory experience.

On the palate, Brentino reveals a solid but balanced structure, with soft and well-integrated tannins that accompany a lively acidity, contributing to a good tasting persistence. Ripe fruit flavors blend with notes of vanilla and chocolate, resulting in a long and pleasantly complex finish.

This wine is versatile when it comes to food pairings, pairing well with red meats, mushroom dishes, medium-aged cheeses and rich, flavorful preparations.

A production that combines indigenous grape varieties with international varieties. Winery open to visitors, with vintage archives dating back to the late 1970s and a wine club. Commitment to innovation and experimental projects.
Winery history
The winery originated from the Maculan family's winemaking activities in Breganze. The current estate was developed from the business founded by grandfather Giovanni Maculan in 1947. In the 1970s Fausto Maculan led a qualitative transformation of the estate, elevating local wines such as Torcolato and expanding the portfolio with modern expressions of red and white wines. Today management also involves his daughters, continuing a path that combines local tradition with winemaking innovation.
Production philosophy
The winemaking approach combines respect for the territory with experimentation: meticulous care in the vineyard and the cellar, revival of local traditions and attention to modern techniques. The estate emphasizes the identity of Breganze grapes while also using international varieties for a wide range of wine styles.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in the DOC Breganze area, on the hills at the foot of the Altopiano di Asiago. The area is characterized by microclimates favorable to ripening and by hillside aspects that influence production, particularly of passito wines made from Vespaiola.
