Il Poggione’s Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is a red wine identified by the appellation stated on the label. As no vintage or specific details about this bottle have been provided, it is best to describe it without assigning unconfirmed aromas, structure or ageing periods. The appellation offers a clear point of reference for anyone looking for this type of Tuscan red, while the producer’s name helps identify the wine within its range. It is a choice to consider in light of the occasion and the menu, rather than on the basis of details that are not available in the product information.

For serving, a generously sized glass may be suitable, and the bottle can be brought to the table before the meal to allow time to discover the wine. It may be served with meat dishes, roasts or richly flavoured preparations; mature cheeses can also make an interesting pairing. These are suggestions rather than fixed rules and can be adapted to the recipe and personal preferences. For a more specific choice, check the vintage and details of the individual bottle on the label or with the seller. This restrained description leaves room to discover the wine in the glass without anticipating characteristics that the available information cannot confirm.

Discover the story and wines of Il Poggione.

Historic estate in Montalcino and producer of Brunello di Montalcino made from Sangiovese grapes.
Region: Tuscany, Montalcino (province of Siena)
Country: Italy
Winery history
The estate was founded in the late 19th century by Florentine landowner Lavinio Franceschi. Il Poggione was among the first wineries to market Brunello di Montalcino, as early as the beginning of the 20th century; the Franceschi family continues the business today.
Production philosophy
The estate combines tradition with modern techniques, with particular attention to vineyard care. It says it follows sustainable farming practices, alternates crops, limits the use of chemicals and carries out vineyard work mainly by hand.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate is located in Sant’Angelo in Colle, about 10 km south of Montalcino. Its vineyards lie between 150 and 450 metres above sea level and benefit from their position between Mount Amiata and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
