Winery history
The winery traces its origins to Don Luciano de Murrieta, who introduced Bordeaux techniques to Rioja and began exporting its bottles. The estate and the famous Castillo de Ygay lie at the heart of the winery’s history. Ownership passed to the Cebrián-Sagarriga family in the 1980s, who have invested in the restoration and modernization of the facilities while preserving its traditional identity.
Production philosophy
Rigorous attention to the vineyard, comprehensive quality control beginning at Finca Ygay, and a pursuit of balance between tradition and innovation: winemaking aimed at elegance and aging potential.
Terroir and vineyards
Production mainly comes from Finca Ygay, an extensive vineyard estate located on the southern slope of the Rioja Alta near Logroño; the land is used to guarantee full control over the grapes destined for the house’s various wines.
