The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG of San Leonino is born in the heart of the historic Chianti Classico region, a wine emblem of Tuscany. This refined wine is mainly obtained from Sangiovese grapes, cultivated in the estate's vineyards that enjoy an ideal microclimate, with favorable temperature variations and soils rich in galestro and clay. The aging takes place in oak barrels, which give elegance and a complex structure to the final product.

On the nose, it opens with intense aromas of ripe cherry, sweet spices, and light floral notes that intertwine with vanilla and tobacco nuances, a result of skillful maturation. The taste is enveloping, well balanced between soft tannins and vibrant acidity, with a persistent finish that leaves a pleasant sensation of red fruits and spicy notes. Perfect paired with red meats, game, and aged cheeses, it represents an authentic excellence of the Chianti territory.

Discover the story and wines of San Leonino.

Winery located in the heart of Chianti Classico (Castellina in Chianti), specializing in single-varietal wines made from Sangiovese and part of the Angelini Wines & Estates group.
Region: Toscana
Country: Italia
Grapes: Sangiovese
It is part of the Angelini Wines & Estates group. Range focused on single-varietal Sangiovese: Al Limite, Monsenese, Salivolpe and Governo all'Uso Toscano. Vineyards located between 300 and 430 metres above sea level on alberese and galestro soils. 52 hectares of vineyards in the historic heart of Chianti Classico. First recorded sale of a bottle of Chianti Classico in 1973.
Winery history
The estate takes its name from the parish church of San Leonino in Conio, mentioned in documents from the early Middle Ages. Over the centuries the area was at the center of territorial conflicts between Florence, Siena and Volterra; historical documents attest to the estate's economic presence as early as the 13th century. In recent decades the property changed hands several times until its acquisition by the Angelini group. The first bottle of Chianti Classico marketed by the estate dates to the 1970s.
Production philosophy
Production is built on two pillars: the grape variety and the terroir. San Leonino interprets the tradition of Chianti Classico with an artisanal, research-driven approach, focusing on single-varietal Sangiovese wines and on highlighting historic local techniques such as Governo all'Uso Toscano to express freshness, elegance and a connection to the alberese and galestro soils.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are located in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti, on three altitude bands between approximately 300 and 430 metres above sea level, with southeast to southwest exposure. Soils range from sand and clay in the lower parcels to galestro and alberese in the higher parcels. The estate reports a total area of around 100 hectares, of which 52 are planted with vineyards and 6 with olive groves, all within the historic heart of the Chianti Classico.
