Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge is a red wine that represents the quintessence of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, renowned for its powerful and expressive wines, produced in the heart of the Rhone Valley, France. This wine is crafted by the Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes estate, which enjoys an excellent reputation for creating wines that deeply embody the character and complexity of their terroir.

The cuvée Rouge by Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes is a blend of traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties, with Grenache often dominating the composition, flanked by Syrah, Mourvèdre and, sometimes, other varieties authorized by the appellation. This combination of grapes contributes to a complex flavor profile and well-balanced tannic structure, reflecting the estate's ability to combine tradition and winemaking precision.

The wine stands out for its intense and deep red color. On the nose, the Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge reveals a rich bouquet of aromas, including ripe red and black fruits, such as cherries, plums and blackberries, spicy notes and nuances of aromatic herbs, chocolate and tobacco, thanks also to the aging in wood which adds complexity without overpowering the fruit.

In the mouth, the wine demonstrates extraordinary concentration and depth, with a perfect balance between power and elegance. The tannins are robust yet smooth, and the well-integrated acidity supports a rich array of flavors, leading to a long, lingering finish that leaves a pleasantly complex and harmonious sensation.

Ideal in combination with rich and tasty dishes, such as roast or braised red meats, game, spicy stews and mature cheeses, Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes Rouge is also a meditation wine, to be appreciated for its ability to evolve and reveal new nuances during the tasting.

Winery history
The name and label date back to the late 19th century: the history of Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes is traced to 1880. Over the course of the 20th century the bottle and image gained international recognition; today the estate and winemaking are managed by Maison Ogier, which has developed the project by enhancing the Prieuré and its underground cellars.
Production philosophy
Practices focused on respecting the soil and the quality of the fruit: manual harvesting, parcel-by-parcel selection, increasing use of organic practices and a shift to locally produced natural fertilizers. In the winery, vinification prioritizes respect for the expression of the terroirs, with aging in concrete and wood depending on the cuvée.
Terroir and vineyards
Located at the gateway to the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate works with a mosaic of soils typical of the appellation: galets roulés, safres, limestone fragments, sands and red clays. The Prieuré, historically linked to the estate, houses the cellars and offers direct access to the surrounding vineyards.
