The Cornas Chante Perdrix Rouge by Delas Freres is an emblematic example of the intensity and power that the Syrah grape can express in the specific terroir of Cornas, one of the most prestigious crus of the northern Vallée du Rhône. This area, renowned for its full-bodied and deeply aromatic red wines, offers ideal conditions for Syrah, which here finds the expression of unparalleled richness and complexity.

The name "Chante Perdrix" echoes the tradition and history of this vineyard, located on steep slopes that enjoy optimal exposure to the sun, factors that contribute to a complete and homogeneous maturation of the grapes. The philosophy of Delas Freres aims to respect and enhance the unique character of the terroir and the grape variety, through careful viticultural practices and a winemaking process that aims to enhance the purity of the fruit and the typicality of the varietal expression.

Visually, Cornas Chante Perdrix presents itself with a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red color, which anticipates the concentration and structure of the wine. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe black fruits unfold, such as blackberries and currants, enriched by spicy notes of black pepper, liquorice and a touch of aromatic herbs, a distinctive sign of Syrah in this terroir.

Aging in French oak barrels gives the wine additional complexity, with delicate hints of vanilla and roasting that intertwine harmoniously with the fruit and spices. In the mouth, Cornas Chante Perdrix demonstrates remarkable power and depth, with well-structured tannins supporting a dense and rich texture. The acidity is well balanced, giving freshness and dynamism to the palate, and leading towards a long and persistent finish, with an elegant return of the spicy and fruity notes.

This wine is an ideal companion for intense and flavorful dishes, such as grilled red meats, game and mature cheeses. Its structure and complexity also make it an excellent candidate for aging, with a potential for evolution that promises to further enrich its flavor and aroma profile in the coming years.

The Cornas Chante Perdrix by Delas Freres is a celebration of the excellence of Syrah in Cornas, a wine that embodies the strength and beauty of this unique terroir, offering an intense and memorable tasting experience.

Delas Frères – Winery in Vallée du Rhône (Rodano settentrionale)

Discover the story and wines of Delas Frères.

A Northern Rhône maison that combines wines from its estate vineyards with wines sourced from partner growers; known for its Syrah-based cuvées and its parcel-based approach to the appellations of the Upper Rhône.
Region: Vallée du Rhône (Rodano settentrionale)
Country: Francia
Founded: 1835
Grapes: Syrah, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Merlot
Estate-owned vineyards concentrated in the Upper Rhône. Parcel-based approach with single-vineyard labels such as Les Bessards, Le Clos and Clos Boucher. Specializing in Syrah for Northern Rhône reds; Viognier for Condrieu; and white blends based on Marsanne and Roussanne. Historic house with roots dating back to 1835 and a quality revival beginning in the 1990s. Winemaking and aging aimed at preserving terroir expression.
Winery history
Founded as a trading business in the 19th century, the house has documented roots dating back to 1835. Throughout the 20th century the family expanded the business and the company adopted the name Delas Frères. More recently it was acquired by the Rouzaud group and underwent a revitalization: in the 1990s technical and agronomic investments were strengthened, the estate progressively expanded its vineyard holdings and, after renovation work and new acquisitions, opened modern winemaking facilities in Tain-l’Hermitage between 2015 and 2019.
Production philosophy
Enhancing the territory and individual parcels, putting people and vineyard management at the center of the work. The estate adopts an "own sourcing" approach and favors winemaking practices that respect the expression of the terroir: parcel-by-parcel vinification, predominant use of destemmed grapes, cold macerations, extended lees contact, and reduced interventions such as fining or filtration on the top cuvées.
Terroir and vineyards
Operates mainly in the Northern Rhône with its own vineyards and single‑parcel wines. The maison also works with parcels and partners to produce typical AOCs such as Condrieu, Côte‑Rôtie and Cornas, and offers Southern Rhône wines through purchases/contracts.
Awards and recognitions
Individual high-end cuvées have received high scores and accolades from critics and specialist publications; the most prestigious bottlings are frequently rated highly in tasting notes.
