This Barbaresco DOCG 1997 by Bruno Giacosa brings together the sites listed on the label, Falletto and Asili, in a bottle that reflects the maturity of its vintage. The explicit naming of the producer and the year suggests an evolved wine: a more mature colour, emerging tertiary notes and a complexity acquired over time. It is a label to handle with care regarding storage and serving temperature, preferably after periodic checks on the bottle's condition.

In the glass it shows notes of ripe fruit, light earthy hints and subtle spice, with tannins now smoothed and a saline return on the finish; the profile remains harmonious and measured. Recommended with moderately structured dishes, roasted red meats or aged cheeses, or to be enjoyed on its own as a historical expression of the house. For those with multiple bottles, it is prudent to taste them in sequence to understand the variability of the vintage and storage.

Pioneer of single-cru bottlings in Barbaresco. A renowned Nebbiolo traditionalist using extended maceration and aging in large casks. The company reports managing approximately 50 hectares of vineyards and a declared production capacity of around 600,000 bottles per year.
Winery history
Family-rooted firm; Bruno Giacosa bottled wines from the 1960s, originally working as a commerciante buying selected grapes. He later acquired premier cru vineyards (including Falletto in Serralunga and parcels in Asili and Rabajà). Bruno Giacosa died on 21 January 2018; stewardship continued with his daughters.
Production philosophy
An 'updated-traditional' approach: strict focus on grape quality, long macerations, use of large casks and a move to French oak for ageing. Very selective policy—wines are declassified or not bottled if they do not meet standards.
Terroir and vineyards
Langhe (Piedmont). Based in Neive; estate holdings and historic parcels include Falletto (Serralunga d'Alba) and Barbaresco crus such as Asili and Rabajà, with presence across key MGA of Barolo and Barbaresco.
Awards and recognitions
Recognitions and honors: among the publicly reported honors, Bruno Giacosa was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra.
