The Bottle of Italy Sommelier

Advice to help you choose and enjoy it at its best.

Let’s talk about Limone 70cl - Mazzetti

More questions

Mazzetti's Limone in a 70 cl bottle is a lemon liqueur with a fresh, immediate character. On the nose, freshly grated peel predominates over candied notes, with a light floral hint that lends elegance without weighing it down. The sip is balanced: measured sweetness and lively acidity are balanced on a soft, clean texture; the body is medium and the finish leaves a clear but pleasant citrus trace, ideal for those seeking freshness supported by a pleasing roundness.

It is best enjoyed chilled, in small glasses, or as a bright element in light cocktails; with ice it opens up slightly and becomes softer. It pairs naturally with vanilla ice cream, dry pastries and citrus-based desserts, and also stands up to contrasts with fresh cheeses. Perfect as a digestif after a summer meal, it offers a fragrant close that invites another sip.

The story
The Mazzetti family began distilling in the Monferrato in 1846 when Filippo Mazzetti founded the first distillery in Montemagno; the activity later expanded and relocated to Altavilla Monferrato. The company has remained family-run for generations, establishing itself as a historic presence in the production of grappa and Piedmontese distillates.
Distillation
Steam-heated copper pot stills with a discontinuous (batch) method; traditional distillation for eaux-de-vie and brandy (methods described in company materials).
Ageing
Ageing in casks and barriques; finishing practices in casks that previously held sherry, bourbon, vermouth and other selected woods; on-site ageing cellar for multi-year refinements.
Raw materials
  • pomace (for grappa)
  • wine/grapes (for eaux-de-vie/brandy)
