The Madiran Rouge Préphyloxériques from Domaine Labranche Laffont is an excellent example of the winemaking tradition of the Madiran region, renowned for its robust and characterful wines. This wine is primarily composed of Tannat grapes, known for imparting an intense tannic structure and a long lifespan to the product. The special denomination "Préphyloxériques" indicates that the vineyards from which it originates are ancient and have not been affected by phylloxera, a pest that devastated many European vineyards in the 19th century.

The traditional vinification and aging in French oak barrels refine the wine's organoleptic qualities, allowing the aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and a slight balsamic note to pleasantly emerge on the nose. On the palate, the Madiran Rouge Préphyloxériques is vigorous yet balanced, with an aromatic persistence that invites a second sip.

It is an ideal wine to accompany red meat dishes, game, and aged cheeses, capable of evolving and improving for many years if properly stored. A true gem for enthusiasts of characterful and long-matured wines.

Discover the story and wines of Domaine Labranche Laffont.

A winery in the Gers (south‑west France) producing Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic‑Bilh, led by Christine Dupuy, with organic practices and low‑intervention winemaking.
Region: Occitanie (Gers)
Country: France
Grapes: Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng
Christine Dupuy has run the domaine since 1993 and was among the first women winemakers of the appellation. Conversion to organic viticulture and certification. Features one of the few pre‑phylloxera Tannat parcels, vinified separately in great vintages. Production both in the Madiran area and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh, with low-intervention cuvées such as "TAN NAT", a 100% Tannat cuvée with no added sulfites.
Winery history
Family-owned estate located in Maumusson‑Laguian. Christine Dupuy took over the estate in the early 1990s and developed it from the few hectares she inherited; over the years she has focused on quality, enhancing parcels of old vines and gradually converting the estate to organic viticulture.
Production philosophy
Organic viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking: parcel-by-parcel work, hand harvesting, frequent use of indigenous yeasts, gentle pressing and practices aimed at preserving the fullest expression of the terroir with as few interventions as possible.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the Maumusson area, at the foot of the Pyrenees. Clay and pebble/gravel soils. The area is characterized by well-exposed plots that provide structure and ripening potential, with some very old vines that contribute to the wines' depth.
