Damoiseau's Rum Vieux Millesimato 2009 presents itself with a mature and refined character: on the nose it opens with notes of caramelized sugar, natural vanilla and a hint of candied orange that does not overpower. Behind these emerge hints of sweet tobacco and dried fruit, suggesting discreet complexity rather than ostentatious richness; the bouquet remains clean, with a depth that invites slow tasting.

On the palate the sip is warm but balanced, with a soft texture and a progression that favors roundness before alcoholic heat. The finish is savory and pleasantly persistent, with returns of sweet spice and a light toasted note that keeps the drink lively. It is best served cool, in tasting glasses to capture the aromatic profiles; it pairs well with cigars that are not overly intense, with dark chocolate, or on its own as a meditative digestif after a meal. A rum that displays elegance rather than ostentation.
