Kitaoka Honten's Matcha Shu is a modern shochu in which the character of green tea meets the clarity of distillation. On the nose it opens with finely herbaceous notes and matcha powder, with a subtle toasted-green hint that doesn’t overpower; the profile remains restrained and focused. On the palate it surprises with a silky texture, balancing softness and fresh savoriness that lets a pleasant umami emerge; the sip is controlled, sharp but not aggressive, with a lingering tea finish that invites a second taste.

It suits both a slow tasting, served slightly chilled or with a single ice cube to reveal its nuances, and use as an ingredient in cocktails where a clean green note is desired. Ideal pairings: delicate fish and shellfish dishes, rice-based preparations, tea sweets and desserts featuring ricotta or white chocolate; it also works well as a digestif after a light meal. Recommended for those seeking an elegant, contemporary sip.
