This Benriach 2014, eight years old, comes from Speyside and is offered in Douglas Laing’s Provenance series. On the nose it is youthful and straightforward: ripe apple and pear are joined by citrus hints and a malt-and-honey undercurrent, with a light spiciness that adds dynamism without weighing it down. The impression is one of aromatic clarity and freshness, a profile that invites the sip while remaining measured in complexity.

On the palate it shows medium body, softness and a cereal texture that supports the fruit; the oak is present but discreet, imparting warmth and a pleasant persistence on notes of dried fruit and orange peel. The finish is linear, approachable and satisfying. Presented in a gift box, it suits both contemplative tasting and simple pairings such as dark chocolate or aged cheeses; a drop of water can further open the aromas. The 70 cl bottle and elegant packaging also make it a pleasing choice for a gift or for the personal cellar.
