Caol Ila 2018, bottled for Douglas Laing's Provenance series, offers the island's saline and smoky imprint with restraint and precision. On the nose fine peat and light embers emerge, iodic notes and a malty sweetness that softens its character; the profile retains a freshness that prevents aromatic fatigue. The palate is clean and medium-bodied, with balanced smoke, sea-salt tang and a light herbal note that lengthens the sip without weighing it down.

The boxed presentation makes it an excellent choice for gifting or storing; it is well suited to moments of contemplative tasting, served neat or with a few drops of water to open the aromas. It’s a young Islay but already well defined, capable of telling the distillery's story without being exuberant. Ideal pairings range from aged cheeses to flavorful seafood dishes or a square of dark chocolate, leaving room for the more subtle nuances of the dram.
