Let’s talk about Whisky Loch Lomond Reserve Blended 70cl

More questions

Loch Lomond Reserve is a blended whisky with a balanced, straightforward character and a pleasant softness that envelops the nose without overpowering. It opens with notes of malt and honey, a light touch of caramel and a hint of lightly toasted wood that adds breadth to the aromatic profile. The impression is clean, with restrained sweetness that leaves room for a hint of delicate spice and a medium-bodied structure that invites sipping. Overall it encourages slow enjoyment, revealing subtle changes as it opens up.

On the palate the sip is warm and rounded, with a well-balanced body: sweet notes merge with spicy accents and a slight smoky trace that emerges in the finish, making it persistent but not overpowering. Serve at room temperature or with a few drops of water to open up its aromas; it pairs well with dark chocolate, dried fruit and aged cheeses, or suits relaxed after-dinner tasting moments. Suitable both for the novice and for those looking for an everyday blended.

Loch Lomond is a Scottish whisky producer (Loch Lomond Whiskies / Loch Lomond Group) based in Alexandria, Dunbartonshire. It produces both single malt and single grain whiskies and offers an extensive range of expressions with various maturation and finishing styles.
  • One of the few sites with integrated production of malt, grain, blending and bottling.
  • Use of distinctive stills (Lomond / straight‑neck) alongside traditional pot stills and column stills, offering great stylistic versatility.
  • Broad offering ranging from unpeated expressions to heavily peated versions (e.g. Inchmoan) and distinctive single grain bottlings.
  • Commercial portfolio and official shop with dedicated lines and special releases for travel retail and collectors.

The story
The brand and the modern production linked to the Alexandria site date back to the 1960s (the current distillery was started in the late 1960s), while the area has a whisky-making history intertwined with historic facilities such as Littlemill. The plant has experienced closures and relaunches (production resumed in the 1980s) and over time has expanded capacity and production sites, integrating malt and grain production, blending and bottling within the Loch Lomond group. In recent years the company has gone through ownership changes and investments that supported its international expansion.
Distillation
Combined use of traditional pot stills, Lomond/straight‑neck type stills (which allow greater control/rectification) and continuous column stills (Coffey/column). The combination enables production of both malt and grain whisky on the same site.
Ageing
Maturation in oak casks with extensive use of different cask types and finishes; the range includes expressions matured in American oak (first‑fill/refill/re‑charred), finishes in Oloroso sherry casks, Rioja-style cask finishes and other dedicated maturation regimes.
