The Merlot Friuli Isonzo DOC by Tenuta Villanova is a red wine that perfectly embodies the elegance and richness of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. This Merlot is cultivated along the banks of the Isonzo River, an area renowned for its gravelly and mineral-rich soil, which imparts a unique structure and distinctive aromatic complexity to the wine.

The color of the Merlot Friuli Isonzo DOC is a deep, intense red, with garnet reflections that develop with aging. On the nose, the wine offers an aromatic bouquet of ripe red fruits such as cherries and plums, enriched by hints of sweet spices like vanilla and cocoa, thanks to the aging process in barrique.

On the palate, the Merlot is smooth and velvety, with a beautiful acidity that perfectly balances its rich fruitiness. The tannins are well-integrated, ensuring good longevity for the wine. Toasted and spicy notes harmoniously blend with the flavors of ripe fruit, leaving a persistent and pleasantly warm aftertaste.

This Merlot pairs splendidly with robust dishes such as roasted red meats, game dishes, or aged cheeses. It is also an excellent wine to accompany a relaxing evening by the fireplace or to be enjoyed in good company.

Tenuta Villanova is among the historic wineries of Friuli, with a strong passion for quality and attention to detail. This Merlot is an exemplar that reflects the skill of the winemaker and the uniqueness of the terroir in which it is produced.

Production of still and sparkling wines, as well as distilled spirits. An example of a historic estate focused on vineyard zoning and the enhancement of the crus. Offering guided tours, tastings and wine tourism experiences.
Winery history
The estate’s earliest documentary records date to 1499; over the centuries it has maintained an uninterrupted winemaking presence. In the 20th century the property was acquired by the Bennati family, and today the estate is run by the next generation, which has led a refresh of the brand identity without losing its connection to the historical archive and local tradition.
Production philosophy
The estate emphasizes respect for the land and the enhancement of individual parcels: cultivation follows vineyard zoning and protects the soil’s identity, while in the cellar the approach seeks to interpret with balance the character of the different crus. Alongside wine production, the estate also values the tradition of in‑house distillation.
Terroir and vineyards
The estate stretches from the alluvial plain along the Isonzo to the hills of the Collio, encompassing vineyards located in the Collio DOC and Friuli Isonzo DOC. The estate notes the area is characterized by varied microclimates and soils that contribute to distinct wine profiles.
