The Spumante For England Rosé Pas Dosé 2016 by Contratto represents an authentic expression of British elegance in the art of sparkling wine production. Produced in Magnum format, this dry rosé is made from Pinot Noir grapes entrusted to careful winemaking using the classic method, which involves a long secondary fermentation in the bottle and extended sur lie aging. The term “Pas Dosé” indicates the complete absence of added sugars during the dosage phase, which gives freshness and an extremely natural character to the wine.

The English territory, especially in the most suitable southern lands, offers a cool and breezy climate ideal for cultivating red grape varieties used for superior quality sparkling wines. On the nose, refined aromas of small red fruits emerge, such as wild strawberries and cherries, enriched by pleasant nuances of yeast and bread crust due to aging on the lees. The palate is vibrant, with a balanced structure and lively acidity that invites the next sip.

Perfect to accompany baked fish dishes, shellfish, or simply for a special toast, this English rosé is a testament to Contratto’s ability to convey all the complexity and freshness of the British terroir in sparkling wines.

Winery history
Founded by Giuseppe Contratto in 1867 in Canelli, the estate began by vinifying Moscato grapes and producing bottle‑fermented sparkling wines. In the early decades of the twentieth century Contratto wines gained foreign markets and royal contracts; in 1919 the company produced Italy’s first vintage sparkling wine. From 1920 the production of vermouth and liqueurs was added. The Contratto family remained at the helm until 1993, when the company passed to the Bocchino family; subsequently, in 2011, ownership was acquired by the Rivetti family, who have relaunched Metodo Classico production and expanded its presence in Alta Langa.
Production philosophy
A range focused on vineyard quality and respect for the land: careful vineyard management, low yields, and agronomic practices aimed at organic farming, with the goal of expressing the land’s identity through long-aged sparkling wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Historic headquarters in Canelli, in the province of Asti. The estate also operates vineyards in Alta Langa for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay; the historic underground cellars carved into tuff are an asset for the aging of Metodo Classico wines.
