Valtellina Superiore DOCG - Le Tense - Nino Negri is a red wine that embodies the excellence and tradition of viticulture in Valtellina, an Alpine territory known for its breathtaking landscapes and wines of extraordinary quality. Produced by the historic Nino Negri winery, which has dedicated itself to the creation of emblematic wines for over a century, "Le Tense" is part of the prestigious Valtellina Superiore DOCG category and represents a tribute to ancient cultivation techniques and the native Nebbiolo variety, locally called Chiavennasca .

The name "Le Tense" refers to the terraces traditionally cultivated in this region, which require intense care and manual labor. These vineyards are located on steep slopes, where viticulture is transformed into an art capable of challenging nature to produce wines of exceptional intensity and depth.

Visually, the wine presents an intense garnet red color, which anticipates the complexity and richness of the bouquet. On the nose, seductive aromas of ripe red fruits, floral notes of rose and violet emerge, enriched by nuances of spices, leather and tobacco, evidence of careful refining in wooden barrels which helps to define its distinctive character.

In the mouth it expresses a perfect harmony between structure and elegance. The tannins are fine and well integrated, supported by a lively acidity that gives freshness and a long tasting persistence. The palate is enveloped in flavors of cherry, plum and a light minerality, with a long and pleasantly spicy finish.

This Valtellina Superiore DOCG is ideal for accompanying complex dishes rich in flavour, such as red meats, roasts, game and mature cheeses. It is also a meditation wine, which opens and evolves in the glass, revealing successive layers of aromas and flavors.

Winery history
Founded by Nino Negri and with deep roots in Chiuro, the winery has more than a century of history. The company website records historical milestones, from the 15th‑century palazzo that houses the winery to the company's official registration and subsequent phases of growth; in recent years Nino Negri joined Gruppo Italiano Vini and has benefited from the work of prominent oenologists who contributed to the winery's qualitative development.
Production philosophy
The winery aims to highlight the distinctive character of Chiavennasca through mountain viticulture, careful selection of cru and winemaking techniques that reflect the valley’s microclimatic and soil variations. It combines local tradition with modern methods to produce wines that express the territory.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are in Valtellina, cultivated on steep terraces with dry-stone walls in historic subzones such as Sassella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgella. The soil is often shallow, rich in schist and quartz fragments; exposure and a wide diurnal temperature range give the wines structure, acidity and minerality.
