The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG Riserva "Pieluni" produced by Cantina Illuminati is a true expression of Abruzzese oenological excellence. This wine represents the richness and complexity that Montepulciano can offer, exclusively produced with selected grapes from the best vineyards of the Teramane hills.

The "Pieluni" stands out for its deep ruby red color, with reflections that tend towards garnet as it ages. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex bouquet, characterized by notes of ripe red fruits, especially plums and cherries, enriched by nuances of vanilla, tobacco, and dark chocolate, thanks to aging in barriques.

On the palate, the wine is robust but balanced, with a well-integrated tannic structure and a long and pleasant aromatic persistence. The acidity is well-balanced, making it particularly suitable to accompany rich meat dishes, such as roasts and stews, as well as aged cheeses.

Aging in oak barrels for at least 24 months and a further 12 months in the bottle before commercialization gives this Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva a notable aging capacity, making it ideal for the cellars of passionate collectors.

Cantina Illuminati has been committed for generations to enhancing the local terroir, maintaining a strong link with tradition while incorporating modern winemaking techniques. The particular attention to the quality of the grapes and the production process makes the "Pieluni" a benchmark example for this denomination.

Winery history
The business traces its origins to the Illuminati family and dates back to 1890, when Nicola Illuminati began winemaking on the border between Marche and Abruzzo. Over the generations ownership and management have remained within the family; in the 1960s Dino Illuminati established the headquarters in Controguerra and expanded the vineyards in the historic area known as Zanna. Today the winery remains a family-run enterprise with multiple generations involved.
Production philosophy
Production focused on quality and a connection to the land: artisanal work in the vineyard and cellar, respect for local agricultural practices, and care of the processes from vine to bottle to express the identity of the Colline Teramane.
Terroir and vineyards
Colline Teramane — a hilly area between the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, characterized by temperature variations and windiness that promote balanced ripening of the grapes.
