The Negroamaro Salento IGT "Maru" by Castello Monaci is a red wine that expresses with strength and elegance the distinctive characteristics of the Negroamaro vine, grown in the lands of Salento, in the heart of Puglia. This region, known for its warm, sunny climate and its rich, fertile soils, is the ideal habitat for Negroamaro, which finds its maximum expression here, giving life to wines of great aromatic and structural intensity. "Maru", in a 375ml format, offers the opportunity to appreciate the quality and typicality of this wine in a small portion, ideal for moments of individual or couple consumption.

Visually, the "Maru" has an intense ruby red color, with violet reflections that highlight its youth. On the nose, the wine reveals a complex and enveloping bouquet, dominated by notes of ripe red fruits, such as plums and blackberries, enriched by nuances of spices, chocolate and a light balsamic touch, which give depth and complexity to the olfactory profile.

In the mouth it demonstrates an excellent balance between aromatic richness and a well-integrated tannic structure, with a lively acidity that enhances its freshness and drinkability. The finish is long and persistent, with an aftertaste that recalls the fruity and spicy sensations perceived on the nose, leaving a pleasant sensation of warmth and roundness.

Ideal as an accompaniment to red meat dishes, game and mature cheeses, Castello Monaci's Negroamaro Salento IGT "Maru" also pairs perfectly with typical dishes of Apulian cuisine, enhancing its rich and intense flavours. Its versatility also makes it an excellent meditation wine, to be enjoyed slowly to appreciate all its nuances.

With "Maru", Castello Monaci confirms its commitment to valorising the native Apulian vines, offering a wine that is an authentic expression of the Salento area, capable of conquering wine lovers with its intensity, elegance and character.

Winery history
The building known as Castello Monaci has historical origins dating back to the Renaissance/medieval period and takes its name from an ancient settlement of Basilian monks. Over the centuries the fortification’s use and ownership have changed several times, and it is now managed by the Memmo Seracca Guerrieri family, who have enhanced the historic residence by integrating winemaking, hospitality and events.
Production philosophy
It combines respect for native Salento grape varieties and the local terroir with the use of modern winery technologies: temperature-controlled vinification, ageing in barriques, and a focus on wine tourism through wine tours and a wine museum that showcases local traditions.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the heart of Salento, in Contrada Monaci near Salice Salentino and San Pancrazio Salentino, the estate is set among vineyards and olive groves and is influenced by the proximity of the Ionian and Adriatic seas. The soils include tuffaceous formations typical of the area.
