The Rosso Terre Siciliane PGI "Peloro" by Le Casematte is a wine that embodies the essence and character of the Sicilian territory, demonstrating how modern viticulture can harmonize with the landscape and the thousand-year history of the island. Located near the Strait of Messina, the Le Casematte winery was born from the ambition to make the most of the native Sicilian vines, with an eye for sustainability and respect for the territory.

"Peloro" is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nocera, two varieties that fully express the diversity and richness of the Sicilian viticultural flora. Nerello Mascalese, a typical vine of the slopes of Etna, gives elegance and finesse to the wine, with aromatic notes of red fruits and a characteristic acidity. Nocera, less known but equally interesting, brings freshness and liveliness, contributing floral and fresh fruit tones that enrich the organoleptic profile of "Peloro".

The vinification of "Peloro" follows an approach that aims to preserve the integrity and purity of the fruit. The grapes, harvested manually, undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, to keep the varietal aromas unaltered. A short period of aging in wood follows, which adds complexity to the wine without overpowering its primary notes.

Visually, the "Peloro" has a lively and brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, the intense aromas of cherry, raspberry and floral notes are immediately distinguishable, enriched by nuances of light spices and a light mineral vein, which recalls the proximity to the sea of the Strait of Messina. In the mouth, the wine is surprisingly fresh and balanced, with a subtle tannic texture that supports its structure, leading to a persistent and aromatic finish.

Ideal in combination with a variety of dishes, from light appetizers to white meats and grilled fish, the "Peloro" by Le Casematte proves to be a versatile and pleasantly drinkable wine, capable of accompanying the entire meal. This Rosso Terre Siciliane PGI is a celebration of Sicilian viticultural biodiversity and the ability to produce wines that are at the same time an authentic expression of the territory and accessible to a wide audience of enthusiasts.

Winery history
Le Casematte began as an enological project founded by Gianfranco Sabbatino and Andrea Barzagli with the aim of raising the profile of the Faro appellation. The name comes from the presence, within the vineyards, of two casematte visible in the landscape; the venture is presented as a meeting between local tradition and modern winemaking choices.
Production philosophy
Small-scale, terroir-focused production: the producer favors indigenous grape varieties and low‑impact farming practices, limiting the use of new oak in aging to preserve freshness and a sense of place in the wines.
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards on the hills of Contrada Corso, on the heights north of Messina overlooking the Strait of Messina, at an altitude of around 500 metres above sea level. The microclimate is influenced by sea breezes between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, with pronounced day–night temperature variations that promote the aromatic development of the grapes.
Awards and recognitions
The winery and some of its vintages have received ratings and recognition from guides and critics; praise has appeared in publications and among retailers.
