The Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kirnberg from Domäne Wachau is a wonderful expression of one of Austria's most celebrated grape varieties. Located in the picturesque wine region of Wachau, this wine represents the quintessence of quality that the terroir can offer. The name "Smaragd" refers to the category of fuller-bodied and more mature wines from Wachau, inspired by the "Smaragd" (emerald) gemstones found in the region.

The harvest is carried out manually in October, a sign of careful selection of the grapes at their peak of ripeness. The result is a wine of remarkable concentration and complexity. On the nose, the Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kirnberg offers a captivating range of aromas, from fruity notes of green apple and peach to hints of aromatic herbs and white spices, introducing a vibrant minerality.

On the palate, it stands out for its rich structure and excellent acidity, which balances the aromatic complexity and ensures a long persistence. Tasting it is an experience that involves a delightful freshness alongside a pleasant creamy sensation, ending with a persistent and refined finish.

If you are passionate about high-quality and characterful wines or stimulated by the search for pairings with intricate fish dishes or white meats, the Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Kirnberg from Domäne Wachau is an essential addition to your collection.

The historic complex and the vineyards passed over time to several noble families; after the transfer of parcels from the Starhemberg to local growers, the site developed into a growers' cooperative. In the 20th century the cooperative adopted various names and has operated as Domäne Wachau since the late 2000s; the organization brings together hundreds of member-growers who cultivate the steep terraces of the Wachau.

Craftsmanship, respect for the terroir and precision in the vineyard and cellar: Domäne Wachau emphasizes the grapes' inherent quality, agricultural practices focused on biodiversity and soil health, and low-intervention winemaking. The estate has undertaken sustainability and certification initiatives and promotes ongoing training for its growers.
