The Valtellina Superiore DOCG - Mazer - Nino Negri represents a distinct chapter in the narrative of excellence of the Nino Negri winery, a winemaking reality that for over a century has expressed the best of the winemaking tradition of Valtellina. The name "Mazer" evokes the richness and complexity of this wine, the result of the selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes, locally known as Chiavennasca, grown in the most suitable areas of the Valtellina Superiore DOCG.

This wine, a symbol of the craftsmanship and attention to detail that characterizes Nino Negri's production, has a deep garnet red color, which heralds an intense and multi-layered olfactory experience. On the nose, Mazer offers a wide range of aromas, from ripe red fruits such as cherry and plum, to delicate floral notes, up to nuances of spices, leather and a light toasting, the result of meticulous refining in wooden barrels which further enriches its profile.

On the palate it stands out for its extraordinary structure and complexity. The tannins, although present and well structured, are soft and well integrated, thanks also to a balanced acidity which gives freshness and longevity to the wine. The sip evolves harmoniously, with a long and persistent finish that leaves a pleasant sensation of intense flavors and spicy memories.

Ideal in combination with rich and structured dishes, Mazer is perfect with red meats, game-based dishes, mature cheeses and complex preparations that require a wine of great personality and depth. It is also an excellent meditation wine, which invites discovery and reflection thanks to its aromatic and gustatory richness.

A leading producer of Valtellina Sfursat, with iconic labels such as the 5 Stelle. Historic headquarters within a 15th-century palazzo in Chiuro, combining tradition with winemaking innovation. Company within Gruppo Italiano Vini.
Winery history
Founded by Nino Negri and with deep roots in Chiuro, the winery has more than a century of history. The company website records historical milestones, from the 15th‑century palazzo that houses the winery to the company's official registration and subsequent phases of growth; in recent years Nino Negri joined Gruppo Italiano Vini and has benefited from the work of prominent oenologists who contributed to the winery's qualitative development.
Production philosophy
The winery aims to highlight the distinctive character of Chiavennasca through mountain viticulture, careful selection of cru and winemaking techniques that reflect the valley’s microclimatic and soil variations. It combines local tradition with modern methods to produce wines that express the territory.
Terroir and vineyards
The vineyards are in Valtellina, cultivated on steep terraces with dry-stone walls in historic subzones such as Sassella, Grumello, Inferno and Valgella. The soil is often shallow, rich in schist and quartz fragments; exposure and a wide diurnal temperature range give the wines structure, acidity and minerality.
Awards and recognitions
The Valtellina Sfursat 5 Stelle 2021 by Nino Negri has been awarded the "Tre Bicchieri" distinction in Gambero Rosso’s Guide to Italian Wines.
