Firriato Winery

Terroir, identity, quality, and authentic Sicilian character: these are the pillars on which Firriato is founded, one of the most representative wine realities of the island. Founded in 1978 in Paceco by president Salvatore Di Gaetano and his wife Vinzia Novara — today supported by their daughter Irene Di Gaetano — Firriato embodies the extraordinary diversity of the Sicilian wine landscape.

Its estates tell the entire geography of Sicilian wine: from the hills of the Trapani countryside, to the heroic viticulture on the island of Favignana, up to the volcanic slopes of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe.

Firriato's mission has always been to explore the infinite nuances of the island territory, identifying the ideal contexts to enhance indigenous grape varieties and successfully cultivate some of the most prestigious international varieties.

Thanks to a scientific approach and the use of cutting-edge agronomic practices, Firriato manages over 490 hectares of vineyard according to the principles of certified organic farming, with a concrete commitment to environmental sustainability. The entire production cycle, from vineyard to bottle, is tracked, certified, and monitored through rigorous controls and environmental measurements.

A project to enhance uniqueness led Firriato to discover, in the Cavanera Etnea estate, a plot of pre-phylloxera Nerello Mascalese vines, with an average age of over 150 years, certified by the University of Palermo. From this viticultural heritage comes Signum Aetnae, a niche Etna Rosso Riserva DOC that represents the very essence of the volcano.
