Winery history Black Island (Black ISland)

The winery was established by converting the former Cooperativa Agricola Jedinstvo into the modern Merga Victa project. According to official communications, the facility has been reopened as Black Island Winery to promote local Pošip production and revive the winemaking tradition of the island of Korčula.

Production philosophy

To showcase the island’s native grape varieties by working with traditional vineyard methods and winemaking practices aimed at expressing the terroir. The winery aims to offer tasting experiences that convey the local wine culture.

Terroir and vineyards

Vineyards around Smokvica on the island of Korčula. The area features terraced, red-brown soils, a very sunny climate and a long-standing tradition of cultivating Pošip, a grape variety native to the region.

Awards and recognitions

Merga Victa Pošip: IWC and Decanter for 2018; Decanter for 2019. The Merga Victa Pošip Sur Lie has received positive ratings, including 93 points from Falstaff for the 2020 vintage.
