Winery history Château Clarke

The estate has ancient origins (vineyards recorded as far back as the Middle Ages) and took its name from the Clarke family. The property was acquired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1973; from then on the vineyards were restructured and replanted in the 1970s, initiating a new productive phase and the revival of the estate, which has remained linked to the Edmond de Rothschild family group.

Production philosophy

Aiming to express the terroir by enhancing individual vineyard parcels, investing in cellar facilities and optimizing the vineyard, with a focus on Bordeaux-style blends featuring a strong presence of Merlot to reflect the characteristics of the local clay-limestone soils.

Terroir and vineyards

Located in the Listrac‑Médoc appellation on the clay‑limestone hills of the Médoc peninsula. The climate is influenced by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, which contributes to the wines' freshness.

Awards and recognitions

Historically classified as Cru Bourgeois (classification confirmed in 2003 and subsequently subject to appeal/annulment in 2007). The estate has received recognition and positive ratings from wine guides and critics, but a comprehensive list of specific awards is not provided here.
