Discover the story, territory and wines of Clos de May.
A small Haut-Médoc label (Bordeaux) with limited production, vinified by Château Maucamps and featuring a Merlot-focused profile, according to information published by the distributors.
The vineyard has been documented since the late 19th century: a historical reference from 1874 records the toponym "Au Moulin Demey", later evolving into Moulin de May and finally Clos de May. The parcel has an established local history and is listed among the area's crus; commercial sources also indicate a historic recognition as Cru Bourgeois in the 1932 classification. Today the estate belongs to the Tessandier family and winemaking is carried out at Château Maucamps.
Production philosophy
Quality-oriented and sustainably focused viticulture: monitored vineyard management practices, hand-harvesting and careful grape selection. The stated objective in the product sheets is to enhance the expression of Merlot on the local terroir through controlled winemaking and oak ageing.
Terroir and vineyards
Located in the commune of Macau in the Médoc, on the edge of the Margaux appellation, the soils are described as fine Garonne gravel over blue clay, with good drainage that promotes consistent ripening and the typical character of the Médoc.
Awards and recognitions
Historic mention as Cru Bourgeois noted on commercial product sheets.
