Winery Joseph Phelps Vineyards

Joe Phelps purchased the property that would become the estate’s headquarters near St. Helena and began producing the wines that made him famous; the flagship blend Insignia and the first Syrah varietal bottlings marked the winery’s emergence on the California wine scene. Over time the estate expanded vineyards and acquisitions across several subzones of Napa Valley and also developed a vineyard-and-production project on the Sonoma Coast.

A strong emphasis on grape quality and the art of blending, combined with food-and-wine hospitality and initiatives for more sustainable agricultural management, with recent projects aimed at regenerative and agroecological practices.

Production is concentrated mainly in the Napa Valley, with estate vineyards in locations such as Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap District, Oak Knoll and Carneros; the company also has viticultural operations and bottlings from the Sonoma Coast.
