Winery history Mastro Janni

The estate was formed from the merger of the Loreto and San Pio properties; the Mastrojanni family began renovation and production in the 1970s. Over time the estate was expanded and modernized under the guidance of successive technical directors. Since 2008 it has been part of the Illy group while retaining managerial autonomy. The Mastrojanni Relais resort was opened later as a hospitality extension of the property.

Production philosophy

Priority is given to the quality of raw materials and respect for the land: attention is focused on vineyard selection and on traditional winemaking supported by technology. A predominance of Montalcino's winemaking tradition and the care of individual parcels aim to express the character of Sangiovese Grosso.

Terroir and vineyards

Located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the southeast of the Montalcino area. The vineyards are planted on varied soils — clays, galestro and pyroclastic deposits — with the climatic influence of Monte Amiata and a range of aspects and elevations that contribute to the complexity of the wines.

Awards and recognitions

According to distributors and technical sheets, the winery is frequently cited with high scores by international critics and publications; the sources consulted did not report an exhaustive list of specific awards.
