Winery Mutiliana

Discover the story, territory and wines of Mutiliana.

Mutiliana is the wine project of Giorgio Melandri based in Modigliana (Forlì‑Cesena, Emilia‑Romagna). It produces mountain wines focused on valley‑specific Sangiovese and labels such as the Pinot Noir “Ecce Draco”.

Winery history Mutiliana

Mutiliana began as a project by Giorgio Melandri — a wine critic and journalist — aimed at enhancing the Modigliana terroir. Melandri has selected and established vineyards in the three local valleys (Ibola, Tramazzo, Acereta) to produce distinct wines for each valley.

Production philosophy

Territorial and minimalist approach: separate vinifications by vineyard/valley, spontaneous fermentations, long macerations and predominant use of concrete tanks for ageing; emphasis on altitude and terroir expression.

Terroir and vineyards

Vineyards in the municipality of Modigliana (Apennines of Romagna, province of Forlì‑Cesena) distributed across the three valleys Acereta, Tramazzo and Ibola. For some mountain wines (e.g. the Pinot Noir “Ecce Draco”) parcels are located above 600 m a.s.l.
