Winery history Petra (Azienda Agricola Petra S.r.l.)

The Petra project began in 1997 initiated by the Moretti family with soil studies led by Prof. Attilio Scienza. The new cellar designed by Mario Botta was built between 2001 and 2003. From 2003 to 2018 the estate consolidated its vineyard identity (with Marco Simonit and winemaker Pascal Chatonnet); 2019–2023 focused on soils, canopy and water management; from 2024 Andrea Lonardi MW is indicated as part of a stylistic evolution.

Production philosophy

Philosophy: read the territory as a whole—integration of architecture, landscape and vineyard work; vine care and hospitality. Approach based on soil zoning and valorisation of parcel-specific characteristics.

Terroir and vineyards

Location: San Lorenzo Alto, Suvereto (Val di Cornia, province of Livorno). Estate about 300 hectares with roughly 100 ha planted. Main zones: San Lorenzo (calcareous, stony clay—Merlot), Riotorto (alluvial soils—Cabernet Sauvignon), Graziani (silty‑sandy soils—white varieties) and Montebamboli (terrace ~400 m asl).
