Discover the story, territory and wines of Wilhelm Walch.
Family-run winery in Termeno (South Tyrol) producing wines typical of the South Tyrolean Alps, with an assortment ranging from local to international grape varieties, and a historic cellar complemented by modern winemaking facilities.
The estate was established in Termeno and has remained with the Walch family since its founding. The founder, Wilhelm Walch, arrived in the area after entrepreneurial ventures in Austria and set up the winery in a historic Jesuit cloister; since then management has stayed in the family and the property has evolved through restoration of the historic building and modern expansions of the winery. Today the estate continues to combine grapes from local growers with fruit from its own vineyards to showcase the region's typical wines.
Production philosophy
Enhancing the typicity of local grapes with a contemporary approach: hand-tended vineyards, attention to sustainable viticultural practices, and a combined use of historic elements and modern cellar technologies.
Terroir and vineyards
Vineyards located in the Tramin and Caldaro area, on the foothills of the Dolomites, with generally sunny exposure and pronounced day–night temperature variations; soils of dolomitic origin with calcareous, sandy and clayey components. The vineyards are cultivated on various aspects and slopes that contribute to the freshness and finesse of the wines.
Awards and recognitions
The winery has received recognition in international competitions and guides. Examples published on the official website include medals at the Berliner Wine Trophy, and awards and ratings from Mundus Vini, Falstaff, Decanter and national guides such as Veronelli and Bibenda.
