Winery Yalumba

The first vines were planted at Yalumba in 1849 by Samuel Smith. Since then the estate has remained in family hands and has grown by expanding its operations and vineyards across various parts of South Australia. Over the course of its history the company has produced both fortified wines and modern collectible ranges, and has established a prominent role in the Australian wine scene.

The winery favors sustainable viticultural practices and minimal-intervention winemaking: it promotes biodiversity in the vineyard, frequently uses spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, and limits interventions in the cellar. It also has an in-house cooperage that supports aging and an artisanal approach to oak.

Based in Angaston, in the heart of the Barossa Valley; production and grape selection also cover Eden Valley, Coonawarra, the Limestone Coast, Wrattonbully and other regions of South Australia.

Recognitions primarily in the field of sustainability: these include the Climate Protection Award, the International Green Apple Awards, the Rabobank Environmental and Energy Management Award, the International Award of Excellence for Sustainable Wine Growing, and the Environmental Excellence award from the South Australian Wine Industry Association.
