Producer history Appleton Estate

The earliest records of rum production at Appleton date back to 1749. The company is named after founder Francis Dickinson and developed in the Nassau Valley, taking advantage of the local microclimate and water filtered through limestone. In 1916 Appleton Estate came under the same corporate roof as J. Wray & Nephew; in 1981 Joy Spence joined the team and later became the first woman Master Blender in the spirits industry. The visitor site and company visitor centre were opened to allow tours of the ageing houses and production facilities.
