The company was founded in 1852 when Erasmo Bermúdez, a Venezuelan pharmacist, formulated a bitter known as “Amargo Panacea”. That initiative evolved into a business producing liqueurs and rum (La Sin Rival), rebuilt after a fire during the War of Restoration. Management has remained within the Bermúdez family for generations, with expansion and modernization of facilities throughout the 20th century.
