Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Industrial production of grain whisky using continuous column stills; the site has also served a dual-purpose role, having produced in the past and still producing in some lines neutral grain spirit (GNS) used for vodka and gin. The plant uses local water resources (wells/boreholes on the Leven) and is equipped with energy recovery and water treatment systems.

Distillation

Continuous distillation on column stills (patent / Coffey / Stein method typical of grain whisky production)

Ageing

Maturation in wooden casks (oak); in single-cask and independent releases, maturations in refill hogshead, ex-bourbon and sherry (e.g. PX/oloroso) are found depending on batches.

Producer history Cameronbridge

The original facility was founded in the 19th century by the Haig family; historical sources report the distillery's establishment in 1824. Among the first in Scotland to adopt continuous distillation (early Stein/Coffey column), Cameronbridge progressively specialized in grain whisky production. During the 20th and 21st centuries the site underwent modernizations and expansions and became part of the Diageo group; the plant has also seen significant investments aimed at energy efficiency and sustainability.

Production philosophy

Large-scale production, consistency and steady supply of components for well-known blends: the approach focuses on operational efficiency, quality control of blend supplies and the integration of environmental sustainability practices at the production site.

Territory

Fife region, Scottish Lowlands (Windygates / Leven area), Scotland, United Kingdom.
