Producer history Clynelish

The first distillery on the site was founded in 1819 by the Marquis/Duke of Sutherland. In the 1960s (1967/1968) a new facility was built adjacent to the original to increase capacity; the historic site was later renamed Brora (closed permanently in the 1980s). For decades Clynelish's production was mainly destined for blends; the single malt brand was officially relaunched in Diageo's range (Hidden Malts) in 2002 with a 14-year bottling. In recent years the distillery has undergone modernization and upgrades to its visitor offering by the owner.
