Producer history Cointreau (Cointreau SAS)

The Cointreau distillery was founded in Angers in 1849. Édouard Cointreau created the orange liqueur recipe in 1885; in 1972, the distillery in Saint-Barthélemy-d’Anjou was inaugurated. In 1989, Cointreau merged with Rémy Martin to form the Rémy Cointreau group.

Production philosophy

The philosophy combines preserving the original recipe, rigorous orange-peel selection, liqueur-making expertise and innovation. The House also focuses on traceability and more sustainable agricultural practices.

Territory

Production takes place at Le Carré Cointreau in Saint-Barthélemy-d’Anjou, near Angers. Sweet and bitter orange peels come from several growing regions, including Brazil, Tunisia, Ghana, Morocco and Spain.
