Production method
Local raw material (sugarcane processed into molasses and cane honey); aromatic fermentation (minimal indicated fermentation ~24 hours); combined distillation using pot still (batch copper still), batch kettle and continuous column to obtain light and heavy profiles; maturation in oak casks (mainly ex‑bourbon and ex‑whisky) and final blending. Some premium expressions include sherry cask finishes and use solera‑type ageing systems to achieve consistency and complexity.

In 2002 it came under the control of Venezuelan entrepreneurs who relaunched it as Destilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) and brought the Diplomático brand to international markets. In 2022/2023 the brand and related assets were acquired by Brown‑Forman, which integrated Diplomático into its global portfolio.
