Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Small-batch production with multiple trial distillations; the producer carries out hundreds of distillations to select the best botanicals. Some botanicals are macerated in the wash, others are placed in the vapor path; the base spirit is obtained from neutral British wheat.

Distillation

Artisanal small-batch distillation: multiple test distillations on single botanicals with combination/blending of final distillates; use of both maceration and vapor-path techniques for botanicals. Base spirit from British wheat (neutral/soft).

Ageing

For aged releases (e.g. Hart & Dart) the base gin is finished in rare wooden casks, notably mulberry; some releases are single-barrel with distinct barrel characteristics.

Producer history Garden Swift

Garden Swift began as a label of Capreolus, the project of Barney Wilczak based in the Cotswolds. The gin was originally released as Garden Tiger and later renamed Garden Swift for trademark reasons; it has received international recognition, including The Whisky Exchange – Spirit of the Year 2017. The brand developed from the producer's experience in making eaux-de-vie and in the artisanal processing of fruit and botanicals.

Production philosophy

To recreate and 'freeze' nature's nuances: preserving seasonal scents and aromas through selective harvesting, artisanal processing and targeted distillations, prioritizing small-scale production and the high quality of raw materials.

Territory

Cotswolds, England (Stratton / Cirencester area).

Awards and recognitions
