Distillation and production

Distillation and production

Production method

Grain-to-glass production with on-site milling, mashing, distillation and bottling; the range includes blends of Single Malt and Single Grain and single malt expressions (described as triple-distilled). Some releases are assembled in small batches by the master/head distiller.

Distillation

Distillation carried out on site as part of the grain-to-glass process; single malt expressions are described as triple-distilled.

Ageing

Maturation in casks with different profiles depending on the expression: ageing in ex-bourbon (first-fill), finish/finishing in sherry, Madeira, virgin oak and other types; the distillery shop also showcases aged editions and special finishes.

Producer history Hinch

The official history of the Hinch project begins in 2016; the production complex and visitor centre were officially opened on 31 March 2021. In its early years the company developed a range by combining acquired stock and in-house production, quickly gaining international distribution and recognition for its products.

Production philosophy

A 'People. Place. Progress.' approach that aims to combine heritage and innovation: producing spirits inspired by Irish tradition while experimenting with different maturations and finishes, offering transparency of the grain-to-glass process and a direct visitor experience.

Territory

Killaney Estate, near Ballynahinch, County Down.

Awards and recognitions

Among the awards reported by the producer: Ninth Wave Irish Gin has received honours such as World Gin Awards 2023 (Gold / Country Winner) and CWSA (Double Gold / Gin of the Year); for the whiskeys the distillery lists CWSA awards (e.g. Double Gold for Hinch 10 Year Sherry Finish, Gold for Hinch 5 Year Double Wood, Silver for Hinch Peated Single Malt) on its official pages and blog.
