Distillation

Triple distillation in traditional copper pot stills (single pot still style).

Ageing

Maturation mainly in American oak casks of second and third fill; finished by marrying with separately matured grain whiskies.

Producer history John Power'S

The origins date back to the late 18th century with the opening of the John's Lane Distillery in Dublin (1791). During the 19th century Powers was among the first to sell bottled whiskey with the iconic Gold Label. In 1966 John Power & Son contributed to the foundation of Irish Distillers; production was moved to the modern Midleton facility (County Cork) in the 1970s. The brand is today part of the portfolio managed by Irish Distillers / Pernod Ricard.

Production philosophy

The brand emphasizes the pursuit of the 'finer cut' and a decisive flavour: it prioritises the quality of the distillation cut and a robust character rather than extreme long ageing. Historic values such as craftsmanship, fidelity to the single pot still recipe and attention to raw materials are central to the brand's communication.

Territory

Historical origin: Dublin (John's Lane). Current production: Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. International markets.

Awards and recognitions

John's Lane Release was named 'Irish Whiskey of the Year' in 2012 by critic Jim Murray (Whisky Bible 2012).
