Distillation and production

Production method

Not an owning distillery: production is based on blending and selecting whiskies already distilled and matured; assembling multiple parcels of single malt and grain whisky to achieve the brand profile.

Distillation

Not applicable as a proprietary distillation. Products are obtained by blending single malt and grain whiskies already distilled at their respective distilleries.

Ageing

Maturation in wooden casks (minimum 3 years to comply with Scotch regulations); the blend components come from whiskies aged in oak casks.

Producer history Justerini & Brooks

Founded as a wine and spirits merchant by Giacomo Justerini (who arrived in London from Italy) in the 18th century, the company developed a long activity of buying, selecting and marketing fine wines and whiskies. In the early 20th century Justerini & Brooks created J&B Rare for the US market; the first bottling of J&B Rare dates to 1932. In subsequent decades the firm merged and was integrated into larger groups (including International Distillers & Vintners) and today the J&B brand is managed within Diageo's portfolio, while Justerini & Brooks maintains merchant and retail activities for wines and spirits.

Production philosophy

Wine-merchant approach: careful selection of components, construction of the blend to balance freshness and complexity, attention to customer service and to the conservation of rare wines and spirits for collectors and fine dining.

Territory

Historic headquarters and main activities in the United Kingdom (London), with an international commercial presence and distribution channels in multiple countries.
