Distillation and production

Production method

Production relies on a secret family recipe for the amaro; for traditional products (herb- and root-based liqueurs) the company uses infusion/maceration processes of the botanicals followed by blending; for the Anniversario limoncello line, peels of Limone di Sorrento PGI are used (declared for the line). The company reports quality controls and recognized certifications.

Distillation

For herb- and root-based liqueurs the publicly described company process foresees infusion/maceration of the botanicals; for limoncello extraction from the lemon peels is used.

Producer history Lucano

The business was founded in 1894 in Pisticci by Cavalier Pasquale Vena, who developed the Amaro Lucano recipe in the backroom of his biscuit factory. Production expanded in the following decades (relocation to Pisticci Scalo in 1965) and the Vena family has retained ownership and management, passing the recipe down through generations. Over the 20th century the brand grew with lines such as Sambuca, Limoncello and Caffè; in 2021 Lucano received recognition as a 'Historical Trademark of National Interest'. Today the company operates with certified quality standards and has a position both on the Italian market and international markets.

Production philosophy

Family tradition, protection of the original recipe and attention to quality are central to Lucano's philosophy; at the same time the brand declares an approach that balances historical roots with brand renewal to reach new audiences.

Territory

Pisticci Scalo (province of Matera), Basilicata (Lucania); national distribution and presence on international markets.

Among reported recognitions: gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (2014) and silver medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles; additionally some products received scores from specialist publications (e.g. Wine Enthusiast and Ultimate Spirits Challenge for Anniversario labels).
