Production method
Selection of distillates produced by local distilleries (either pot stills or columns depending on origin), aging in ex-bourbon oak and, where applicable, double-aging (first in a tropical climate and then in Europe). ABV reduction is controlled by the Cellar Master (e.g. vintage bottles at 46% and Jamaica XO at 40%). Some expressions receive a finish in particular casks.
Distillation
Does not produce in-house: it bottles distillates from different distilleries; there are both rums distilled in modern columns and pot still rums depending on origin.
Ageing
Aging in ex-bourbon casks; a double-aging policy (first in tropical climate, then finishing in Europe). Some expressions include finishes in specific casks (e.g. Moscatel).
Producer history Mezan
Mezan was born as a collection of rums selected by the Cellar Master and established itself in the early 2000s. Since 2010 the brand has been managed within the Marussia Beverages group. The offering includes both single-origin bottles (vintages/single cask) and blended expressions representing different Caribbean styles.
Production philosophy
Mezan's philosophy is transparency and respect for origin: to offer “unaltered” rums that preserve the character of the distillery of origin, avoiding additions of sugar, colourants and chill-filtration. The aim is to showcase the territorial and production identity of each rum.
