Rosso Antico was created in 1962 by the Distilleria Jean Buton in Bologna as a wine-based aperitif. In the 1960s and 1970s it became an icon of the Italian aperitivo, also known for TV advertising campaigns. The Buton distillery and its brands entered the Montenegro Group at the end of the 20th century; today Rosso Antico is produced in the Group's facilities in San Lazzaro di Savena (BO). In recent years the brand has been relaunched, emphasizing the bottle's heritage and its versatility in mixing.
