The story
The company originated with Sebastian Stroh: distillate production began in 1832 in the Lavant Valley (Carinthia). Over the 20th century the business gradually expanded, consolidating the reputation of its Inländer Rum; it already received international recognition in 1900. In 1911 the so-called "alte Likörfabrik" was built, a modern production site, and ownership and management have changed over time (sale to ECKES AG towards the late 1990s; subsequent management buy-out in 2008). Today the company is based in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee and the brand is present in over 40 markets with a significant export share.
Production philosophy
Highlight the Austrian tradition of spirits and promote their use in typical dishes and beverages: STROH presents itself as "The Spirit of Austria", focusing on family recipes, national identity and culinary use in addition to consumption in cocktails or hot drinks.
Territory
Headquarters in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee (Carinthia, Austria). Main markets: Germany, the Scandinavian countries, the Benelux and travel retail; distribution in over 40 countries with an export share around 75%.
Awards and recognition
Large Gold Medal, Exposition Universelle (Paris), 1900.
Production method
STROH Inländer Rum starts from rum distillates obtained from sugarcane molasses; subsequent stages (adjustment of essences and typical formulations, reserved recipes) take place in Austria according to proprietary recipes. Since 2008 EU regulations require that Inländer Rum be produced in Austria from cane molasses, a rule followed by the company.
Distillation
Produced from rum distillates made from molasses; Inländer varieties are then blended and flavored in Austria according to proprietary recipes.
