The product historically known as Stolichnaya has its origins in the Soviet area and is often traced back to the first half of the 20th century. Over the years ownership and trademark rights have been subject to international legal disputes. Since 2000 the version intended for foreign markets has been produced and bottled by Stoli Group/SPI Group in Riga (Latvia). In March 2022 the company announced the official rebranding of the brand to Stoli to distance it from association with Russia and to reflect its Latvian roots and production.
